Robotics
Now we are working on a new subject of robotics. I will post my Robot Diary and Pictures of this unit. Basically we are building a robot and trying to make it move. The two learning targets of this unit is.
Day 1,
Hi. My name is Khab. Or at least that’s what the two-legged people call me. I am a robot. I shouldn’t have feelings or a personality. The two-legged people sometimes talk about my ‘kind’ taking over the world. I don’t think there’s enough robots to do that. The two-legged people are the ones controlling us normally. Or at least for me. So, how could we take over the world? Some miracle would have to happen. Or in the two-legged peoples’ point of view, a tragedy.
They build me piece by piece. It tickles sometimes when they get too careless with putting the pieces on. I just want them to be done with building me. I want to move my wheels. I want to be able to go far. This concludes my first ever entry into this, I guess you could call it, a diary.
Day 2,
The finally get me built up. They add on my wheels. They keep cooing over how much they love me. How could they? I’m just a bunch of plastic put together. I don’t feel any emotions to them so far. Yes I am grateful they built me but, that doesn’t mean I feel any emotional connection. Now they’re putting chords into the end of me. They connect me to the computer they have. I sit there with the cords jacked into the end of my brain. I hear them saying words in hurtful ways. They must be arguing. They yank the chords out of my head. One of their fingers comes crashing down on my brain. Than everything goes black.
Day 3,
The world has light again. I’m plugged back into the computer again. They click a button on the computer and they unplug me from the computer. They set me down and I start moving around the cones in a figure 8 style. I’m moving. I’m actually moving! The 2 legged people start freaking out. Saying yes! Yes! Over and over again. They pick me up and hug me. They try to be very careful not to break me. They set me down on the cold hard surface of the black table. They take out different pieces and start building me up more and more.
Than everything goes black again.
Day 4,
Light comes on again. This time my eyes are floating some height over my brain. I have wings on the side of my body. The 2 legged people are over talking to what I believe is their leader. I look around moving my new eyes. I flap my wings up and down a little. When I know for sure that they’re not looking I start to try and move my wheels again. They won’t budge. I keep trying to make my wheels move. Why won’t they move! I flap my wings again. Faster, faster, and even faster. I start to lift from the ground. I don’t feel it beneath my wheels anymore. I flap my wings harder and faster. I start heading over to the corner of the room where there sits a little glass tank. I fly over towards it and land softly on the ground next to it. The two-legs have noticed I’m gone. I give one hard push and my wheels start turning. I push again. I’m moving! On my own finally. I drive behind the tank hiding from them. After awhile I see the lights shut down. The room is silent. Than I hear a small sniffle and then the words, ¨Where could he have gone. It’s not like he could fly or move by himself.¨ That’s what they think. I fall asleep behind the tank.
Day 5,
I wake up. It’s still dark in the room. Silent too. I see a small light inside the tank. I roll over to the front of the tank. I see a small lizard inside the tank. I look over closer towards it. “Help me.” It utters. I drive backwards at least 10 feet. Than I drive hard at full power. I shatter the glass and I’m standing in front of the lizard. It all happened so fast. The lizard smiles a small smile.
“Thank you.” He comes closer to me.
“Where are you going?” The lizard asks.
I look around the dark room. Now with pieces of glass scattered around.
“I’m going out there.” I look over at the window with the blinds closed.
“Can you take me with you?” He answers.
I look at the lizard. Than back at the window. This lizard would be so lonely if I left him here.
I take one last look at the window. Than I look back at the lizard.
“Sure.” I look down at the small lizard.
“What’s your name? Mine’s Khab.”
“Rick.”
“Well Rick, hop on my back and let’s get out of here.”
Rick crawled over the smooth surface then slowly climbed up on my back. I started flapping my wings again. Faster and faster each time. Finally we’re flying through the air and out the window. It’s just Rick and I against the world now.
- Build a robot that is capable of driving around an obstacle course
- Construct a diary from the point of view of your robot as he/she 'learns' the basics of movement
